David J. Gaskey

Mr. Gaskey is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan, the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He received a B.S.E. Electrical Engineering degree, cum laude, from the University of Michigan in 1989, and a J.D. degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1992. David is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He has prepared and prosecuted patent applications covering a variety of electrical, computer and mechanical technologies including elevator system components and controls, aerospace industry electronics, vehicle driveline and braking devices and controls, graphical user interfaces, medical devices, computer-based business methods, engine intake control, laser calibration and air conditioning system controls. Mr. Gaskey has litigated complex patent cases and other intellectual property matters at the trial and appellate court levels. He frequently evaluates the scope of protection provided by issued patents for the purpose of counseling clients regarding their strategy to compete in view of competitors' patents or to determine whether a competitor is infringing. David has presented several seminars to in-house patent counsel of Fortune 500 companies regarding changes in United States Patent law and Patent Office rule and procedure updates, and several seminars to business owners on how to best protect their innovations and market share. He has had the privilege of serving as chair of the Intellectual Property Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association. David currently is a member of the Intellectual Property Section of the State Bar of Michigan and the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association.
