Ms. Butchko received a B.S. degree in biomedical engineering, specializing in biotechnology, from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1996. She received a J.D. degree from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois in 1999, and an L.L.M. degree in intellectual property, also from The John Marshall Law School, in 2000. She is admitted to the Michigan bar, the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, the Illinois bar, and the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois. Ms. Butchko is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. During law school, Ms. Butchko worked as a law clerk for an intellectual property law firm in Chicago and was a legal extern for the Honorable Judge Edward Burr of the Circuit Court of Cook County in Chicago. She has prosecuted patent applications in a variety of mechanical, chemical and material technologies, including refrigeration systems, vehicle suspensions, medical devices and air intake systems in both the United States and foreign patent offices. She has experience prosecuting trademark applications and preparing foreign patent applications for United States filings with the Patent and Trademark Office. Ms. Butchko has presented seminars to both in-house patent counsel of companies regarding United States Patent and Trademark Office updates and to business owners regarding protecting their inventions. She is a member of Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association.
